Key Stage 3 Drama

Drama is a life skill and a creative art form. It helps pupils develop their ability to use voice, movement, gesture and facial expression, in acting, mime, dance drama and improvisation. In Year 8, pupils have one timetabled lesson per week. The drama curriculum at this stage focuses on supporting and encouraging pupils to express and manage their thoughts and feelings while working in a safe and controlled environment.  The development of these skills encourages self-confidence and self-awareness. It promotes the development of the individual in a group context: roles and ideas are negotiated, problems solved and decisions made together. Homework will be set once per term.

In year 9, pupils will build on the skills they have developed in year 8. There is a greater focus on their individual performance ability as pupils are expected to write and perform monologues as well as learn lines and perform extracts from published scripts.
